Introduction: Take the Wheel

Inspiration comes from the most mysterious of places. It can come looking out at sea from a cliff, or during your morning shower. It can come from watching a blockbuster movie, or it can arrive when you’re just sitting in front of the computer. That’s where my lighting strike hit me at the age of 19, and how Life is a Road was begun.

I could say I had been contemplating the meaning of life that day, or it was just something in the stars. I typed, and typed and saw a philosophy appear on the screen. Something of a poem, definitely spontaneous and I didn’t know where it was going. About half a page later, and I came to a stop, but I liked what I had written.

Who is this book written for?

This book has been written specifically for young adults, between the ages of 16 - 25, although I am not against people younger or older reading it, and if that’s you I’m sure you will also get value from it

What does this book cover?

My aim was to focus on three key areas in this book. These areas are integral to helping you determine your Road in Life. They are;

·        1. Becoming who you are

·        2. Deciding where you’re going in life, and;

·        3. Knowing how to get there

What will you get the most from this book?

You could feel a whole range of emotions as you read Life is a Road and that’s because I don’t say that you or your life are one sided. Meaning, nothing is all positive and all good all the time.

And throughout the book, you will find a range of activities to complete, in the form of exercises and questions. These are here to help you implement what you learn in each chapter. How and when you complete these activities is your call; maybe you’ll read the whole book through once first, then come back to them? Or stop at each activity and do it before moving on? Whatever your approach, I recommend you complete all the activities and answer the reflective questions at the end of each chapter.

Can I ask you a question?

What would happen if you took the time to plan your life out? And I mean, really plan it out?

And what if you had the tools and skills to tackle any problems head on, so you could quickly get back on track with your life plan - would you do it?

This book will help you do that. So, let me ask that question again, with a little addition;

“If you could learn all the skills and tools you ever needed to tackle problems head on, so you can determine your life Direction, move towards it and never stop until you get there – would you do it?”

If you’re answer is Yes, then you ARE ready and willing. Over the coming pages, you will discover just how capable you already are.

One of Life’s Greatest Myths.

“You’ve got to figure out your Direction in life!”

Heard it before? I’m sure you have. Well guess what?

“You don’t have to figure out your Direction in life – but you will benefit greatly from figuring out your Destination in life.”

Confused? Worry not, because we will talk about both Direction and Destination in this book, where I clearly explain the difference and why your Life Destination always comes before your Life Direction.

That’s it for this sample from the Introduction of “Life is a Road”. Check back here in a few days for the next sample.
