Chapter 1: The Way We Drive

<<Return to "Introduction: Take the Wheel"

“When you know and respect your Inner Nature, you know where you belong. You also know where you don’t belong”

– Benjamin Hoff

Why Do We All Drive Differently?

Or…

“Why do we all live our lives differently?”

There are almost eight billion people on the planet today, and we all share several things in common. Then why are we all so different? Thanks to that marvellous thing in our heads called a mind, we are each gifted with the ability to view the world in our own unique way. And our perspective on life, which we will refer to in this book as your “Map of the World” is made up of your past experiences, present situation, and hopes for the future.

And no matter what past we come from, no matter the circumstances of our present situation, and no matter how we look towards our unknown futures, we are also gifted with the Power of Choice. And no matter what past we come from, no matter the circumstances of our present situation, and no matter how we look towards our unknown futures, we are also gifted with the Power of Choice.

We will explore this more as we move along in the book.

The 5 Other Types of Drivers

Or…

“The 5 main ways people live their lives.”

As we launch into this part of the book, know that there are six types of drivers that I will discuss with you. They are based on six different ways that people can go through life and are also the six main ways that people drive on the road.

The Risky Drivers

How they drive a car – like to take chances on the road.

How they behave in life – can be erratic and easily excitable

The Spontaneous Drivers

How they drive a car – Are the most over-confident

How they behave in life – Display egotistic and cocky attitudes

The Cautious Drivers

How they drive a car – Take their time when driving on the road

How they behave in life – Tend to be private and somewhat reserved

The Reactive Drivers

How they drive a car – Can appear nervous or anxious on the road

How they behave in life – Get easily stressed as they don’t like to be negatively challenged

The Influenced Drivers

How they drive a car – Hit the road with little to no practice in driving

How they behave in life – Impressionable individuals

** Please realise these are not generalisations of these types of personalities; they are just some of the behaviours you can see. There are many more, including positive ones, and these are explored in greater detail in the book.

How to Spot these Drivers on The Road

Or…

“How each of these personalities moves through life.”

Keep in mind, no one is stuck with their driving style forever. They can change. But if they are not aware of their style, in denial of their actual style, or don’t believe they can change, they will be stuck with their driver’s predictable ways of going through life. And ultimately, that causes more problems than solutions.

How can you tell what type of driver you might be right now? We’ll explore that in the next chapter.

And how can you start identifying who some of these types of drivers are in the people around you? firstly realise, they are all around you; everywhere, all the time. At school, work, in your family, in your sports club, social club, anywhere you can think of.
